October Awareness Activities
October is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time when Child & Youth Advocacy Centres (CYACs) and communities across Canada raise awareness about child and youth safety, the supports available to children, youth and families, and the important role of CYACs.
Across the country, CYACs recognize October in different ways, including local awareness campaigns, community events, Go Blue initiatives, building and landmark light-ups, and other activities.
This October, CYACC is supporting these efforts by helping amplify awareness campaigns across the CYAC network and providing optional resources that centres can use or adapt to complement their own activities.
How CYACC Is Supporting October Activities
Throughout October, CYACC will help showcase the work happening in communities across Canada by:
- Amplifying CYAC activities, events and awareness initiatives through CYACC’s communications channels
- Sharing and resharing CYAC social media content throughout the month
- Providing optional resources that CYACs can use or adapt
- Promoting CYAC events and initiatives through the CYACC Events Calendar
- Helping build broader awareness of CYACs, their services and their impact in communities across Canada
Resources for CYACs
CYACC has developed a collection of optional resources that CYACs can use or adapt to complement their existing October activities.
Resources include:
- Social media graphics
- Email and newsletter banners
- Virtual meeting backgrounds
- Profile picture filter
- Email signature banners

These resources are intended to support, rather than replace the campaigns, messaging and activities already being led by CYACs and their provincial and regional networks.
Share What’s Happening in Your Community
We want to help amplify the great work CYACs are doing throughout October.
If your CYAC has an event, awareness activity, building or landmark light-up, campaign, community initiative or other activity planned, share the details with hello@cyacc.ca so we can help showcase what’s happening across the network.
Please include:
- Your CYAC name and location
- Date and name of the activity or event
- A short description
- A link, if applicable
CYACC can also add your activities to the CYACC Events Calendar and share through CYACC’s communications channels.
You can also tag @cyacc_caeac in your social media posts so we can help amplify and reshare your activities throughout October. We encourage CYACs to share photos of events, staff, partners, landmarks and community initiatives so we can highlight the many ways communities across Canada are raising awareness.
Amplifying the CYAC Network This October
Every community and every CYAC approaches October differently. CYACC’s role is to help connect and amplify those efforts, making the work happening across the country more visible and strengthening awareness of the CYAC model.
